LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Ottawa University Arizona men's soccer team fell in a close match on Thursday evening to the Biola University Eagles, by a final of 1-0 in La Mirada, California.
With the loss, the Spirit fall to 3-5 overall on the season. With the victory, Biola University claims their first victory of the season, moving to 1-3-1 overall.
On Thursday evening, the OUAZ Spirit hung around with the Eagles from Biola University. The home team scored early in the contest, when Kousei Mattox sent a corner-kick in and Sammy McKay headed the ball past Spirit goalie Antony Siaha (SO/Yaounde, Cameroon) for the game's first goal. That goal would be the lone goal in the first half, as the teams headed to halftime with Biola holding a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, the two squads kept it close in a defensive battle. The Eagles attempted seven corner-kicks in the match, to just three for the Spirit.
The Spirit had a few scoring chances in the final 15 minutes of the match. OUAZ had a free-kick on goal and also had some scoring chances in the final few minutes on Eagle goaltender Igor Puglia. He shut the door on the Spirit and picked up the shutout victory for Biola.
OUAZ will now head north to Lancaster, California to face the University of Antelope Valley on Saturday afternoon. The match is scheduled to begin at 1pm.
