SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona women's volleyball team swept the SAGU American Indian College Warriors 3-0 on Thursday evening at Valley Vista High School. Final scores were: 25-12, 25-7, and 25-6.
The Warriors of SAGU American Indian College started game one with a 3-1 over OUAZ, who struggled to start, but the Spirit soon bounced after Kelsey Marchant (JR/Powell, WY) served three aces to tie the game and take the lead. The Spirit went on to force second ball errors for the Warriors with their offense and finish the game 25-12. Game two the Spirit looked more like themselves and grabbed the lead at 5-2 before the Warriors Head Coach could call a timeout. OUAZ went on to hold the lead with Nicole Rackley (SO/Peoria, AZ)'s four aces for the game and finished game two 25-7. In game three the Spirit let the Warriors get a 3-1 lead, similarly to the first game, but two Aces by Olivia Kovacs(JR/Puyallup, WA) and a well timed kill from Halei Sanders (FR/Peoria, AZ) turned it into a 5-3 lead when the Warriors called timeout. The Spirit maintained their lead and finished the match 25-6 in the third game.
Nicole Newman (FR/Avondale, AZ) led her team with six digs and Kelsey Marchant, Camila Trovato (FR/Surprise, AZ) and Olivia Kovacs alternating as the Libero had four digs each. Nicole Rackley finished the match with 7 service aces. Amanda Wick(FR/Glendale, AZ) and Gilly Muniz (SO/Westminster, CO) had one block each and Halei Sanders, Gilly Muniz, and Amanda Wick had four kills each. Jessica Youngberg (JR/Peoria, AZ) finished the match with 22 assists.
The Spirit move on with their 3-6 record and host their next match at Valley Vista HS against Hope International University on Wednesday September 20th, 2017 at 5pm.
