SPIRIT DROP OPENER AT ARIZONA CHRISTIAN 5-1

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Ottawa University Arizona (OUAZ) men's soccer program dropped their program opening match, to crosstown rival Arizona Christian University by a final of 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix.

 

With the loss, OUAZ opens the 2017 season at 0-1. Arizona Christian University opens the 2017 campaign at 1-0 with the victory.

 

Arizona Christian opened Saturday's contest with a goal in the fourth minute off the foot of Anthony Archuleta, and never looked back. Archuleta was set up by Damian Sanchez, to put the Firestorm ahead 1-0; just 4:50 into the game.

 

ACU would add two more goals in the first half, to take a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime.

 

In the second half, the Spirit would look to respond. The Firestorm jumped on the board with a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes into the second half to extend their lead to 5-0.

 

OUAZ got on the board for the first time in program history in the 69thminute, when Adam Dumo (FR/Las Vegas, NV) found Ricardo Navarro(FR/Inglewood, CA) for the first goal in the Spirit's history.

 

In the loss, the Spirit were outshot by the Firestorm 29-9.

 

OUAZ returns to action this coming Saturday, when they travel to Pasadena, California to face Providence Christian College. The men are scheduled to start at 4:30pm, with the women's match to follow at 7:00pm.
