SANTEE, Calif. - The OUAZ women's basketball team overcame the San Diego Christian College Hawks. The final score was 56-41.
"Great win for our team tonight," said Head Coach
Milee Karre. He continued, "Driving up the day of a game is always tricky, but we came out very focused and built ourselves a nice lead. As a coach, you never want to be satisfied, and I think we still have so much room to grow."
Â
The Spirit came out aggressive to start the game scoring thirteen points before the San Diego Christian College Hawks could get on the board. In the second quarter, the Spirit were able to keep their sizable lead at double the Hawk's score, 32-16.
Â
After halftime, the Hawks made some adjustments on defense and kept the Spirit to minimal scoring for the quarter. The Spirit continued to play good defense, and both teams went into the fourth and final quarter of the game with only eight points scored each for the third quarter. The last quarter ended similarly to the third with both teams scoring close to an equal amount of points. The Spirit held onto their lead and finished the game 56-41.
Â
For all four quarters, the Spirit shot better percentages than the Hawks which gave them the lead for the game. Both teams had similar stats in rebounds, turnovers, steals, and assists, but the OUAZ shooting skill from the three-point line opened up opportunities for shots in the paint and at the free-throw line.
