PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona Spirit women's basketball team fell on Monday evening, to crosstown rival Arizona Christian University by a final of 89-62.
"Arizona Christian University is third in the nation in scoring for a good reason." Head Coach
Milee Karre commented. He continued, "We did a good job of taking away their top scorer in the first half, but they have so many weapons it is difficult to control. We turned the ball over too much to give us a real chance, but we don't have time to put our heads down with another good team coming to AZ on Thursday."
To start the game, the Spirit kept pace with the Firestorm staying with distance and denying their top scorer a good quarter. The second quarter the Firestorm turned up the intensity utilizing their secondary scorers to widen the gap ending the first half 32-50 in their favor.
The second half the Spirit made strides to close the lead, but the Firestorm kept the momentum to stay ahead out-rebounding OUAZ. In the fourth OUAZ made significant moves to close the gap and end the game only down by 27 points. The final score was 89-62.
