SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Women's Volleyball team finished their season with a loss to Embry-Riddle (AZ) in four sets. Final scores were 22-25, 27-25, 23-25, 22-25. This game ends the Spirit's season with a record of 10-13.
"My kids showed the improvement that they've made throughout this season. We took them to four, two of which were really close," commented Head Coach Kristin Steele. She went on to say, "I was really really pleased…the crowd was there and it was a great environment."
In game one the Spirit took an early lead scoring 6 points to the Eagles of Embry-Riddle's 2, forcing the Eagles to take an early timeout to re-group. Following the timeout, the Eagles tied the score and then took the lead to maintain it for the rest of the game. The Spirit worked hard to stay within striking distance not making it easy for the Eagles to finish game one 25-22. Game two saw a strong OUAZ team take an early lead and then keep that lead throughout the game. The Eagles made move after move to come back to gain the lead, but the Spirit held them off winning game two 27-25.
Game three of the match both teams fought for dominance and worked hard to gain the momentum that was moving between the two teams. The Eagles finished well in this match making few errors and gaining points to win the game 25-23. In the final game of the match, the Eagles made their move early to get ahead, but the Spirit did not make it easy for them, tying the score multiple times before Embry-Riddle could finish with a kill ending the game 25-22, and the match.
As Head Coach Kristin Steele said, this game was the perfect example of how much this team has improved this season. The effort, sacrifice and hard work that the coaches and players have put into this season is evident by their performance against Embry-Riddle (AZ). This team has made huge strides in this fall season and we are excited to see what they will do in the future. Go Spirit!
