SPIRIT FALL TO BIOLA IN NCCAA WEST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The OUAZ women's soccer team lost to Biola on Saturday afternoon in the NCCAA West Regional Championships by a final score of 3-0.

The OUAZ Spirit held off the Biola Eagles defensively for most of the first half. Emily Kriplean (JR/Peoria, AZ) started at Goalie and had 4 saves for the first half. OUAZ held strong in their defense until the 33rd minute where one lapse in the defense allowed the Eagles to score. Following that unexpected goal, the Eagles seized momentum and struck again to end the first half 2-0 in favor of Biola.

To start the second half the Spirit put some pressure early on the Eagles, keeping play on their side of the field and forcing them to play defense. Again, in the second half the Spirit played incredible defense with Brooke Riddle (JR/Cypress, CA) playing Goalie and earning 6 saves for the half. At the 67th minute of the game, however, the Eagles were able to score again with a free kick that was placed well into the goal. The Spirit fought back working hard to strike, but were unable to gain ground past the Biola defense.

This was the first appearance for the OUAZ Women's Soccer Program in the NCCAA Playoffs and in school history. They end their season with a record of 9-7-2.
