SPIRIT SOAR PAST SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY 20-0

SURPRISE, Ariz. - The 10th ranked Ottawa University Arizona women's soccer team defeated the Shepherd University Thundering Herd on Saturday evening by a final of 20-0 in their first ever match at Spirit Field in front of 300 plus fans.

 

With the victory, the 10th ranked Spirit improve to 8-6-1 overall, while Shepherd University falls to 0-7 overall.

 

The Spirit set numerous records in Saturday night's blowout victory over the Thundering Herd. OUAZ got on the board early and often; striking just 20 seconds into the match to take the early 1-0 lead. Kaitlyn Kelsey(JR/Surprise, AZ) set-up Taylor Constance (JR/Gilbert, AZ) right off the opening draw to put the Spirit ahead. The goal was the first of 12 total goals scored in the first half on Saturday.

 

14 different players recorded goals in the victory Saturday, including senior Rianna Poarch (JR/Gilbert, AZ). She was honored during the game as the lone OUAZ senior and she finished the game with a goal and three assists.

 

Spirit starting goaltender Brooke Riddle (JR/Cypress, CA) played the entire first half in goal and did not face a single shot. In the second half, she headed out as a positional player and tallied two goals on three shots.

 

Overall, the Spirit outshot Shepherd University 62-0 and OUAZ attempted 20 corner-kicks; while the Thundering Herd finished with zero.

 

The 10th ranked Spirit hit the road to finish the regular season in Denver, Colorado next weekend. First up for OUAZ will be a match against Grace University next Saturday October 28th at 12 Noon. The Spirit will then face Johnson & Wales University that Sunday at 12 Noon as well.
