Chris Skowronski was named the Head Coach of OUAZ Powerlifting in April 2024. He is the second head coach since the program's inception and is looking to add to the team’s success on both the national and world stages. He also serves as a strength and conditioning coach, leading sports performance efforts for men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, men’s wrestling, cross country, and track and field throwers.
Skowronski served in the United States Navy from 2010-2016, deploying to the Middle East and Pacific theaters. During this time, his collateral duties included assisting fellow servicemembers with strength and conditioning efforts to improve mission readiness.
After his service, Skowronski moved to Tempe, Arizona to begin his undergraduate degree in Sports Performance at Arizona State University where he also interned with Olympic Sports. Following graduation, he worked in the private sector of strength and conditioning and strength sports. He worked with multiple youth, semi-professional, and professional basketball and football athletes in the Phoenix Valley in support of year-round sports performance.
Skowronski also worked as the primary strength and conditioning coach for South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Arizona for both soccer and basketball teams, as well as women’s volleyball from 2022 to 2024.
In powerlifting, Skowronski began coaching lifters in the USPA where he coached multiple athletes to local, national, and international podiums. Since moving to Powerlifting America, he served as the Head Coach for Grand Canyon University Powerlifting for the 2023-2024 season, leading to one national champion, four university world qualifiers, and a women’s team second-place national finish.
Skowronski currently competes in local strongman competitions as well as trying his hand in the Phoenix rugby scene. He resides in Laveen with his wife, Nikki, and soon-to-be-born son.
