Tina Barrett is finishing her fourth season as head coach of the OUAZ men’s & women’s golf programs. While at the helm, OUAZ has won two Golden State Athletic Conference Men’s Championships and two GSAC Women’s Championships, including the most recent in 2023. Both teams have become annual fixtures in the National Rankings and made multiple appearances in the NAIA National Championship.
Barrett was honored at the end of the 2022-23 season as the GSAC Co-Coach of the Year and as the NAIA finalists for the Dave Williams Coach of the Year Award after the women won the conference championship, the men finished second for the second and both squads made the NAIA National Championships. In her time as head coach, the Spirit men have had a Jack Nicklaus Award Finalist, seven NAIA All-American selections, a GSAC Player of the Year, and Freshman of the Year. On the women’s side, there has been four NAIA All-Americans and two players named GSAC Freshman of the Year.
OUAZ (2019-Present)
MEN
The 2020-21 OUAZ Golf season saw both the men and women win the GSAC Championship and make the program’s first-ever appearance at the NAIA National Championship. The Spirit men secured a sixth-place finish behind a fourth-place result from BK Lim. The season saw the men win six of the 12 events they played and finished in the top three nine times.
The OUAZ men won seven of the eight events they played and finished the season ranked No. 4 in the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll in 2019-20. That team set the program record with its 285.55 scoring average with 11 players posting a stroke average under 75 per round.
WOMEN
The 2020-21 season saw the women’s program finish ninth in their first NAIA National Championship riding a 22nd-placed result from Mikayla Sgrillo. The team won seven of the 12 events they entered and finished runner-up three times.
In 2019-20, the Spirit women picked up three wins in seven tournaments. OUAZ finished with a stroke average of 317.00 and two players ended the season with a stroke average below 80.
Assistant Coaching Career
OUAZ (2017-19): With Barrett as an assistant coach, OUAZ won the 2019 Men's Golden State Athletic Conference championship and finished runner-up at the 2018 NCCAA Men's National Championship. The women's program has posted eight top-three finishes in the two years and had one individual medalist.
Playing Career
Barrett entered coaching after a successful 19-year career on the LPGA tour where she had one career victory (1989 Mitsubishi Motors Ocean State Open), 53 top-10 finishes, and more than $3 million in career earnings. Her professional career included three holes-in-one and she led the LPGA in driving accuracy during the 2006 season.
Before turning pro, Barrett won the 1987 Eastern Amateur and the 1988 Maryland State Amateur. While attending Longwood College in Farmville, Va., Barrett captured seven collegiate tournament titles, including the 1986-87 Small College National Championships. A four-time Division II All-American, Barrett received Division I All-American honorable mention honors in 1988. Barrett also was a three-time Academic All-American and five times made the Dean's List at Longwood College.

Barrett lives with her husband, Dan and their Black Lab Cooper and Shephard mix Maggie.
