Tempe, Ariz. — The No. 1 OUAZ Beach Volleyball team faced a challenging day against top NCAA Division I competition at the Sparky Invitational, falling 5-0 in both duals against Stetson and host Arizona State on Friday.
The Spirit opened the day with an early 8 a.m. matchup against Stetson, where the Hatters claimed all five flights. Despite competitive efforts across the lineup, OUAZ was unable to gain momentum against the experienced Division I squad.
In the afternoon dual, OUAZ faced Arizona State at the Sun Devil Beach Volleyball Facility. The Sun Devils once again took all five flights to secure the 5-0 victory. The Spirit battled throughout the lineup against another high-level opponent, continuing to gain valuable experience competing against nationally recognized programs.
Facing two Division I teams, OUAZ tested itself against some of the top competition in the country as the NAIA's top-ranked program continues to prepare for postseason play.
The Spirit will continue action at the Sparky Invitational on Saturday with another pair of matches, taking on Florida International (FIU) at 8 a.m. before facing Grand Canyon University (GCU) at 2 p.m.
