Mesa, Ariz. — The No. 4 OUAZ Beach Volleyball team had a big day two at the NAIA National Invitational Tournament as they ended Pool Play with a 3-2 win over #1 Southern Oregon, and a 3-0 win in the Quarterfinals against #7 Arizona Christian.
The Spirit began the day with a tightly contested matchup against Southern Oregon that came down to the final flight. Eliana Dean and Maya Blake delivered at the No. 1 position, outlasting their opponents in a three-set battle, 22-20, 22-24, 15-12, to secure the team victory. Shea Marovich and Alexia Luengo contributed an important three-set reverse-sweep win in the No. 4 flight (18-21, 21-15, 15-11), while Mariella Ramos and Gabriela Corrales added another point with a 21-17, 21-8 victory in the No. 5 spot.
The Spirit then started Bracket Play, where they took on GSAC rival Arizona Christian. Marovich and Luengo once again came up with a strong win, defeating the Firestorm's No. 4 positions (21-13, 21-14). Shayna Martinez and Olga Romero shortly followed with a dominant two-set victory (21-12, 21-11) in the No. 2 position. The match then ended when Ramos and Corrales earned a quick two-set victory (21-11, 21-18), sending OUAZ to the Semifinals
The Spirit advance to the Semifinals where they will take on #8 Wayland Baptist tomorrow at 10:00 AM, for a chance to defend their title.
