Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Rachel Hughes

Spirit Battle Through Tough Texas Road Trip

Fort Worth, Texas — The men's tennis team showed both dominance and resilience over a busy four-match stretch in Texas, highlighted by a commanding 7-0 sweep over the University of Dallas before facing three tough opponents on the road.

OUAZ 7, University of Dallas 0 (Mar. 13)

OUAZ opened the weekend in style, shutting out the University of Dallas 7-0 in a complete team performance. The Spirit controlled doubles play from the start, as Arvid Lindblad and Filip Novacek rolled to a 6-0 win at No. 1, while Albin By and Max Lopez-Gonzalez secured a 7-5 victory at No. 2. The Spirit also picked up a forfeit win at No. 3 doubles to seal the early point. In singles, OUAZ didn't let up, sweeping all six courts in dominant fashion. Lindblad led the charge with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1, while Novacek, Kasper Olofsson, Fabian Wetter, and Boston McFarland each earned straight-set victories. Lopez-Gonzalez added another point by forfeit, completing the shutout and giving OUAZ strong momentum.

OUAZ 0, Texas Wesleyan 4 (Mar. 14)

That momentum was tested the following day against a strong Texas Wesleyan squad, where OUAZ fell 0-4. The Spirit battled in doubles but were unable to secure the point, dropping all three matches. In singles, Texas Wesleyan proved tough across the lineup, clinching the match before OUAZ could find a breakthrough. Despite the scoreline, the Spirit continued to compete hard against a quality opponent.

OUAZ 0, Our Lady of the Lake 4 (Mar. 14)

Later that day, OUAZ faced Our Lady of the Lake and again showed flashes of strong play, particularly in doubles. Lindblad and Novacek picked up a solid 6-4 win at No. 1, but the Spirit narrowly dropped the other two doubles matches to surrender the point. Several singles matches were tightly contested and left unfinished, but Our Lady of the Lake secured the decision with wins at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 singles, handing OUAZ a 0-4 loss.

OUAZ 2, Texas A&M Texarkana 5 (Mar. 15)

OUAZ closed out the road trip against Texas A&M Texarkana, putting together one of their most competitive performances of the weekend in a 2-5 loss. Lindblad and Novacek once again impressed in doubles with a 6-4 win at No. 1, while the other courts came down to tight battles. In singles, Lindblad remained a standout, earning a straight-set victory at No. 1, and Olofsson delivered a gritty three-set win at No. 4, battling through a tough match to claim the second point for the Spirit. Several other matches were competitive, including a three-set battle at No. 2, but ultimately Texarkana pulled away late.

The Spirit leave Texas with a dominant win and valuable experience against strong competition, continuing to build as the season progresses.
