Huntington Beach, Calif. — The No. 1 OUAZ Beach Volleyball team continued its dominant run through GSAC play with two more impressive victories, sweeping La Sierra 5-0 before defeating No. 3 The Master's 4-1 to improve to 16-1 on the season and a perfect 11-0 in conference play.
The Spirit opened the day with a commanding performance against La Sierra, winning all five flights in straight sets. Katy Shockey and Alicia Romero set the tone early with a 21-8, 21-15 win in the No. 4 flight, followed by a strong showing from Olga Romero and Shea Marovich in the No. 2 position, winning 21-11, 21-9. Marielle Ramos and Gabriela Corrales added another point with a 21-5, 21-18 victory in the No. 5 flight, while Shayna Martinez and Railey Dykstra secured the No. 3 flight 21-12, 21-16.
At the top spot, Eliana Dean and Maya Blake closed out the sweep with a hard-fought 21-16, 23-21 win, completing the dominant outing for OUAZ.
In the second dual, the Spirit faced a top-five test against No. 3 The Master's and once again rose to the occasion. Dean and Blake delivered a clutch performance in the No. 1 flight, battling through a three-set match to win 22-24, 24-22, 15-11 in one of the day's most competitive contests.
OUAZ added to its lead with a dominant showing from Shayna Martinez and Railey Dykstra in the No. 3 flight, where the pair cruised to a 21-9, 21-9 victory. Shockey and Alicia Romero continued their strong play with a 21-11, 21-18 win in the No. 4 position, while Ramos and Corrales secured the team victory with a 21-15, 21-15 result in the No. 5 flight.
The Master's earned its lone point in the No. 2 flight.
With the two conference wins, the Spirit remain unbeaten in GSAC play and continue to establish themselves as the nation's top-ranked team. OUAZ will return to the sand tomorrow for another conference matchup against Life Pacific, with first serve set for 11 a.m.
