Game Recap: Women's Flag Football | | Rachel Hughes

Spirit Fall in Inaugural Game

Surprise, Ariz. —  The Spirit made program history on Saturday, taking the field for the first flag football game in school history, but came up short in a tough matchup against the nationally ranked Baker Wildcats, falling to the No. 4 Wildcats.

From the opening quarter, Baker controlled the tempo on both sides of the ball, using its experience and depth to keep OUAZ on its heels. The Spirit struggled to find offensive rhythm throughout the game, facing challenges sustaining drives and generating momentum against a disciplined Wildcats defense. Despite flashes of effort and resilience, OUAZ was unable to break through as Baker steadily built its lead.

While the result did not go in their favor, the night marked an important milestone for the OUAZ Spirit. Opening a brand-new program against a top-ranked opponent provided a valuable measuring stick and learning opportunity. As the Spirit continue to grow, gain experience, and build chemistry, this historic first game serves as the foundation for future progress, with optimism that performances will continue to improve as the season moves forward.
