Spirit and Embry Riddle Battle to 1-1 Draw

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's soccer team earned a point in GSAC play on Saturday, drawing 1-1 with Embry-Riddle. Jesus Castillo scored early for the Spirit in the 9th minute, while the Eagles equalized in the 30th. Both teams pressed for a winner in the second half, but the match ended level after 90 minutes.

The Spirit came out strong, dictating the pace of play in the early minutes and finding success in the attack. Their persistence paid off quickly when Jesus Castillo put OUAZ ahead in the 9th minute, finishing a well-built sequence to give the team an early edge. Embry-Riddle fought back, gradually finding rhythm, and capitalized in the 30th minute with the equalizer to send the teams into halftime locked at 1-1.

The second half proved to be a back-and-forth contest as both sides created dangerous chances but were unable to break through. OUAZ's back line held firm under pressure, while the Spirit offense pushed forward looking for a game-winner that never came. In the end, neither side could separate, and the hard-fought battle closed with each team taking a share of the points in the conference standings.
