Spirit Fall Short in Hard Fought Game Against HIU

Surprise, Ariz. – OUAZ Men's Basketball fought hard, but ultimately came up short in their 67-56 loss against Hope International (16-2 OVR, 5-0 GSAC). Their eighth straight loss increases their longest losing, and puts the Spirit at 7-12 on the year, with an 0-5 record in conference play.

The Spirit's offense had a solid day with a 48.8% shooting percentage from the field, and a 37.5% shooting percentage from the three-point line, and were perfect from the free-throw line. The Royals had a good day shooting as well, with a 46.2% shooting percentage from the field and a 39.1% shooting percentage from three. However, the difference in the game was the second chance points, which HIU outscored OUAZ 18-0.

Four Spirit players finished with double-digit points, led by Gelo Gil, who had 14 points, four rebounds, one block, and four assists on 75% shooting. Duece Lloyd had a solid day in the effort with 11 points, two assists, and two rebounds. Reggie Orr made is presence known on both sides on both sides of the ball with 10 points, 8 rebounds, two blocks, and three steals.

The Spirit will head on the road next Thursday on January 23rd to play against longtime rival Arizona Christian at 7:30 PM (MST). They will then finish the week on the road against Benedictine Mesa on Saturday, January 25th at 2:00 PM (MST).
