SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The OUAZ men's soccer team faced a tough test in its season opener on Tuesday, matching up with Stanton for the first time ever on Tuesday evening. The Spirit battled hard and had a few chances, but the contest ended in a scoreless draw.
OUAZ finished with 15 total shots, and six of those hitting the target. Six different players had shots on goal, and a Jamaine Turner led the way with four shot attempts.
Jonathan Garcia made four saves in for the Spirit to keep the game scoreless. His best effort came in the second half, where he made a couple of great saves on driving shots to earn the clean sheet.
The Spirit will have the rest of the week off before heading to the Pacific Northwest for a pair of tough matchups. The first contest is next Thursday, August 29 when they travel to No. 25 Southern Oregon, with kickoff against the Raiders set for 12:30 p.m. AZT.
