It was a wet one at the Scottsdale Ranch Park for the Beach volleyball opener against Park University Gilbert and Northwest University, but the fifth-ranked Spirit came out with two convincing 5-0 sweeps.
Â
OUAZ (2-0) started quickly and was only slowed down by the rain and wind on Thursday.
Â
"We had a great start to the season despite some bad weather conditions," Head Coach
Haleigh Carvalho said. Â "We are really proud of the grit our team showed today to remain disciplined and focused despite less than ideal playing conditions. We are really excited to see what this group can do this season."
Â
The tandem of
Mattea Wilson and
Olivia Andersh got things underway with a 21-16, 21-13 sweep of Park Gilbert's number two pair. Following closely was

Â
In the nightcap, it was more of the same, albeit with a slight delay by the rain that fell in the Valley.
Â
It was Marovich and Raygoza with the first win over Northwest University 21-17, 21-8. Wilson and Andersh were not far behind winning 21-19, 21-10.
