OUAZ's #6 ranked beach volleyball team continued their perfect records on Saturday at the GCU Beach Volleyball Stadium with a pair of victories against Hope International and Life Pacific Universities.
Â
Not only is the Spirit perfect this season (7-0), the team is perfect in GSAC play (4-0), as well as against both Hope (9-0) and Life Pacific (6-0).
Â
Against Hope (0-2, 0-2 GSAC), the Spirit have won the last three meetings, including Saturday's match, by 3-2 scores. The
Mattea Wilson/
Olivia Andersh pairing won the second flight 21-10, 21-12 to be the first match done. While Dayna Raygoza and
Shea Marovich were the second team done dropping a tense 21-19, 13-21, 15-9 match.Â
Amanda Carlson and
Grace Hughes took the third flight 21-17, 21-16 to give OUAZ the 2-1 lead. The HIU first flight won in three sets to tie the match at 2-2. The pivotal fifth flight match between HIU's Phoebe Sebby and Savannah Sulter against OUAZ's formidable pair of
Sam Baer and
Gabriela Corrales went down to the wire. Baer/Corrales won the first set 21-18, Sebby/Sulter won the second set 21-14. It was back and forth, but Baer and Corrales came out on top 15-11 to win the flight and the match for the Spirit.
Â
In the history between Life Pacific and OUAZ on the sand, the Spirit had won 24 of 25 flights and had won all six meetings. Saturday was no different as the Spirit swept the Warriors 5-0. OUAZ only dropped a set out of the possible ten for a clean sweep, so the match went 11 sets.
Â
Wednesday, the squad plays Arizona Christian at Scottsdale Ranch Park. The matches begin at 10:00 a.m.
