Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Spirit upset #18 Master's

The OUAZ men's basketball team turned 15 Master's turnovers into 34 points, defeating the #18 ranked Master's University 84-79 in the Golden State Athletic Conference home opener on Thursday, Jan. 11th.

Six Spirit (11-5, 1-2 GSAC) players scored in double-figures, led by Jacob Henry's 16 points in 33 minutes of play.  Jayce Catchings and Lachlan Viney (off the bench) both chipped in 15 points, while McKay Bundy and Bryce Fitzgerald each had a dozen points.  Elijah Simmons had 11 points off the bench.

Catchings night was impressive as he grabbed five rebounds and dished out seven assists in addition to his point total.

The game was tight most of the evening.  At the break, it was tied at 41-all.

At the 15:00 mark of the second half, the Mustangs (13-4, 2-1 GSAC) held a slim 51-50 lead.  Over the next five minutes, the Spirit went on a 12-8 run to take a 62-57 lead, one that they would not release the rest of the game.

In the final five minutes of the game, the Spirit closed out the game with an 8-0 run to ice the game.  TMU tried to close the gap with a 15-9 run to close out the game, but it was not enough.

The Spirit will return to Faith Arena on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 13, when Life Pacific finishes their two-game road trip through Phoenix.  On Thursday, the Warriors lost to #10 ranked Arizona Christian 88-61.  Get your tickets on the Hometown Ticketing App or by clicking here.
