SPIRIT BATTLE THE RAIDERS
The OUAZ men's soccer team had a spirited battle with Southern Oregon on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 4 as SOU walked away with a 3-2 victory.
Â
OUAZ (2-1-2) outshot the Raiders (4-0-0) by a 17-14 margin (SOU had edge in shots on goal, 10-9). Both teams had seven saves.
Â
In the 39th minute, the Raiders struck first with a long pass deflected into the net for a 1-0 lead. That is how things stood at the break.
Â
In the 53rd minute, the Spirit were on the attack when
Peyton Montiel-Villegas was in the box and was pulled down by a Raider. This was seen by the head referee and the Spirit was awarded a penalty kick.Â
Jamaine Turner stepped up to the shot. He thought about it for a few seconds, and then unleashed a laser to the bottom right corner of the goal for a successful PK. Upon scoring, Turner went to fetch the ball. While he was fetching the ball, the Raiders keeper knocked him hard into the goal frame. This earned him a yellow card. It was the second card out of seven on the day.
Â
In the 72nd minute, the Raiders scored a goal by Charley-Bolyard. Almost immediately, there was a string of three cards within 12 seconds.
Â
In the 81st minute, the Raiders scored again to take a 3-1 lead into the final nine minutes of the match.
Â
At the beginning of the 83rd minute,
Tom Cohen entered the box on the left side and crossed it over to
Ingram Kusaloka. Kusaloka would head the ball towards the goal and it hit the crossbar and down for a goal. It was not only the teams second goal of the day, it was also Kusaloka's second goal of the year.
Â
That is how the match would end. Both teams had chances at the end, but neither side could translate the chances to goals.

The men's soccer team is back in action on Saturday when they host Oregon Tech at 7:00 p.m. at Spirit Field. Tickets are available on the Hometown Tickets App or by
