SPIRIT SWEEPS OKLAHOMA ROAD TRIP

When the season began, OUAZ head soccer coach David Stockton circled the two-match swing through Oklahoma as a time when the Spirit could make a statement about the about the program and potential for a serious postseason run. After two wins where OUAZ outscored the opposition 9-4 … message sent. 

By beating Southwestern Christian University 3-1 on Saturday, the Spirit recorded their third straight win and improved to 5-2-2 on the season. Two days earlier, OUAZ opened the Oklahoma trip beating Oklahoma City University 6-3. 

On Saturday, senior Tom Cohen recorded his sixth goal of the year and senior Peyton Montiel-Villegas recorded his fifth, leading OUAZ to a 2-0 first half advantage. In the second half, junior Andrew Guidice's first goal of the season increased the Spirit lead to 3-0 before the Eagles added its lone goal. Overall the Spirt outshot the Eagles 14-13 (9-1 on goal).  

This week the team will open Golden State Athletic Conference action in Northern California against Menlo College (Sept. 28) and Jessup University (Sept 30). The Spirit return to Surprise on Thursday, October 5 to face rival Arizona Christian. Get your tickets now on the Hometown Ticket App.
