Spirit Adds Two More Conference Wins to Their Record

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ Beach Volleyball team moved to 13-5, and 10-2 in Conference play, after a 2-2 split weekend. Prior to the four match weekend, the Spirit moved up to 4th in the national rankings, making them the second highest ranked GSAC school in the country. 

MATCH ONE: OUAZ 2, Westcliff 3
Taking on the No. 3 team in the country, the Spirit fell just short of completing a win against the 7-3 team. 

Amanda Carlson and Grace Hughes earned a huge win on court four over Westcliff's Brooke Schiedle and Leanna Zamora, earning the point in just two quick sets (21-11, 21-12) In a similar fashion, Zoey Moehring and Cheyenne Higgins took down Westcliff on court five, going 22-20, 21-14 to earn the Spirit's second point. Two additional Spirit courts forced the Warriors to three sets but were unable to complete the win.

MATCH TWO: OUAZ 3, San Diego Christian 2
Coming back from a Thursday loss, the Spirit captured a 3-2 win over San Diego Christian.

Summer Hanks and Dayana Raygoza saw only two sets to complete the win on court three (23-21, 21-9), while Mattea Wilson and Sam Leight and Hughes and Carlson completed their wins in three. OUAZ is now 4-0 against the Hawks in program history. 

MATCH THREE: OUAZ 3, Hope International 2
The Spirit completed a Friday sweep in Huntington Beach after taking down No. 9 Hope Int.

Wilson and Leight were the only Spirit pair to be 2-0 on the day, after picking up wins against both Friday opponents. Against the Royals, the pair completed a court two win in just two sets (21-13, 21-18). Olivia Andersh and Livia De Pra picked up their first weekend win on court one going 15-21. 21-18, 15-12 to secure a win. The final point came thanks to Zoey Mohring and Cheyenne Higgens on court five (22-20, 21-12)

MATCH FOUR: OUAZ 1, Vanguard, 4
The Spirit put up a hard fight against the No. 2 team in the country but fell to Vanguard 4-1. 

The sole point of the match came thanks to Mattea Wilson and Sam Leight who finished Vanguard's Emma Galloway and Hannah Wilmes in two close sets (21-18, 21-18). The Spirit, though not able to come away with any additional points, forced three of the five courts to three sets.
