Surprise, Arizona – The OUAZ Women's Beach Volleyball team had a hot start this weekend to open the season, going 3-1 in four matches.
Number six ranked Spirit fell in the opener in a nail-biter to Williams Carey, 2-3 on Thursday afternoon. It was the only non-conference matchup and loss on the weekend for OUAZ.
The two wins came from courts three and five for Ottawa Arizona.
Grace Hughes and
Amanda Carlson handily won their two sets 21-6, 21-11. While
Dayana Raygoza and
Zoey Mohring took down their opponents 21-10, 21-15.
These two pairs both went undefeated on the weekend (4-0) with just a combined two set losses overall.
Day two went more according to plan for the Spirit as they took down Life Pacific and San Diego Christian both by the score of 4-1. Day three they would once again take down another GSAC opponent, The Masters, by the score of 4-1.
Spirit will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 25 when they take on Arizona Christian at Scottsadale Ranch Park.
