2022 Men's Soccer Notes -- Week 2

Having won its season opener on Saturday, the 10th-ranked OUAZ men's soccer team is set to play a pair of games this week. They begin by hosting Wayland Baptist at Spirit Field on Thursday. The Spirit will then head to Prescott to face Embry-Riddle on Saturday.

The 3-0 win over Antelope Valley last week was the first career win for head coach David Stockton. It was also the fifth straight season the Spirit opened a new season with a win.

The Spirit moved to 1-0 at Spirit Field this season and 25-12 all-time. The 2021 squad posted a 4-1-1 record in road games and went unbeaten in the final four they played.

OUAZ attempted 15 shots in the weather-shortened opener, with nine coming in the second half. The Spirit put nine of the opportunities on goal and had one shot hit the post.

Tinashe Simbo scored a pair of goals for the Spirit in the opener. His first career multi-goal game was the 39th in program history. He is currently tied for the lead in the GSAC in goals scored.

Misael Moreno added the team's third goal while adding an assist for three points. Moreno sits tied for fourth in the GSAC in points entering this week's action.

Tom Cohen attempted eight shots against Antelope Valley and currently leads the conference in that category. Those eight attempts are one shy of the program record that he tied during a game last season.

Adam Salama picked up a shutout in his first career start in goal. The freshman from Israel needed just one first-half save to earn the clean sheet.
