Beach Falls to Vanguard in GSAC Final

QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. – The No. 2 OUAZ beach volleyball team defeated Arizona Christian 4-1 to advance to the championship match of the GSAC Beach Volleyball Tournament, but the Spirit fell to No. 1 Vanguard in that title match.

It was the second straight season the Spirit and Lions played for the GSAC Tournament crown, with Vanguard winning both times. The Lions earned sweeps in four of the five matches, including the top pair of Conley Harris & Natalie Escher claiming a 21-13, 21-11 win over Katia Dizon & Kate Pestova to clinch the championship.

The Spirit No. 4 pair of Mia Lara & Amanda Carlson extended their match to a third set but eventually fell to the Lions duo of Hally Herder & Madison Arnold 21-16, 19-21, 8-15.

In the win over ACU, Dizon & Pestova scored the first point with a 21-11, 21-12 victory, and then the No. 3 pair of Mattea Wilson & Katelyn Viray made it 2-0 with a 21-15, 21-12 win.

After the Firestorm scored its only point with a win on court No. 2, the Spirit No. 5 pair of Zoey Mohring & Olivia Andersh clinched the win for the team by winning their match 21-15, 17-21, 15-7.

By falling in the final, OUAZ must now wait to see if they receive an at-large invite to the inaugural NAIA Beach Volleyball National Invitational.
