Beach Clinches No. 2 Seed with Two Wins

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The third-ranked OUAZ beach volleyball team clinched the No. 2 seed for the GSAC Beach Volleyball Tournament by winning both of its matches on Saturday. The day started with the Spirit defeating No. 2 The Master's 5-0 and then saw OUAZ defeat Life Pacific 5-0.

The day's results leave the Spirit at 13-8 overall, and they went 9-3 in GSAC matches to finish second in the conference standings.

Behind the No. 1 pair of Katia Dizon & Kate Pestova winning their match 23-21, 21-10, the Spirit avenged an earlier loss to The Master's with the sweep. The No. 5 pair of Olivia Andersh & Zoey Mohring claimed a 21-12, 21-11 win, and the No. 3 duo of Katelyn Viray & Mattea Wilson won 21-15, 21-18 to clinch the match.

OUAZ came back to take all five points from Life Pacific, with all five courts ending in 2-0 sweeps. Noel Chavarria & Katie Defer cruised to a 21-3, 21-14 win on the No. 2 court, with the No. 4 pair of Mia Lara & Amanda Carlson winning 21-14, 21-14.

The Spirit will play a pair of matches with Park Gilbert next weekend before playing host to the GSAC Beach Volleyball Tournament on April 8-9 at Casteel High School.
