Beach Wins Twice to Open Arizona Round Robin

GLENDALE, Ariz. – With the first round of Golden State Athletic Conference play this weekend at Victory Lanes Sports Park, No. 1 OUAZ beach volleyball was the only team to win twice on Friday. OUAZ (3-0, 2-0 GSAC) started its day with a 5-0 win over San Diego Christian before securing a 5-0 win later in the day against Hope International.

The Spirit earned a full sweep of San Diego Christian (0-2, 0-1), with all five pairs winning in two sets. In the threes match, Kate Pestova and Priscilla Loiola started the scoring with a 21-11, 21-14 win. The fives pair of Olivia Andersh and Amanda Carlson followed with a 21-17, 21-11 win to set up the twos of Katie Defer and Noel Chavarria to clinch the win with their 21-15, 21-14 decision.

The day's second match for the Spirit saw four of the matches end in OUAZ sweeps. The fours of Mia Lara and Mattea Wilson clinched the victory with a 21-18, 21-7 win. The ones team of Katia Dizon and Katelyn Viray needed that third set for a 21-18, 18-21, 15-9 win to stay perfect on the season.

OUAZ will close out its weekend on Saturday at 2 p.m. against No. 2 Vanguard in a rematch of last season's GSAC Championship and AVCA/NAIA National Championship match.
