Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Balanced Effort Leads Spirit to 92-51 Win

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Behind five players in double figures and 56.5 percent shooting, the OUAZ men's basketball team cruised to a 92-51 win over San Diego Christian on Thursday night at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (6-2, 2-1 GSAC) saw 10 players score in the 41-point victory, the largest in a GSAC game in program history and the second-largest for any game. The Spirit opened the game with a 12-2 run and held San Diego Christian (1-3, 0-3) to one basket in the first six minutes.

The lead hovered around 10 points until the 6:34 mark of the first half when Keshawn Bruner delivered a highlight-reel dunk that ignited the Faith Arena crowd and started a 21-10 run to close that half that included a second Bruner dunk two possessions later.

San Diego Christian came out of the halftime break with a little spark to get within 52-38 and force an OUAZ timeout with 16:39 to play. The Spirit came out of the timeout with a season-best run of 17 consecutive points – primarily in transition – that put the game out of reach.

The Spirit's shooting performance was the best of the season, with 62 points in the paint. They added 29 fast break points and another 29 points from the Hawks' 20 turnovers. OUAZ held SDCC to 30.3 percent from the field and 2 of 19 from beyond the arc.

McKay Bundy matched his career-high – set in the team's last game – with 19 points off the bench. He made 8 of 9 shots and grabbed four rebounds. Jayce Catchings added 15 points with a pair of threes.

Josiah De'laCerda finished with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Devin Collins had a double-double of 10 points and 14 boards. Kolten Hitt had 10 points but snapped his program-record run of 22 consecutive games with a made 3-pointer that dated back to January.

SDCC was led by 17 points from Greg Chew.

OUAZ returns to action on Saturday when they host Hope International at 2 p.m.
