Stellar First Half Ignites Rout of Eagles

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Determined to enter the Thanksgiving break with a win, the OUAZ men's basketball team shot 70.3 percent in the first half and cruised to a 104-77 win over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) on Tuesday night at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (5-2) was 10 of 15 from beyond the arc in the opening half as they built a 67-36 lead at intermission. The Spirit took control of the game early with a 27-8 run over a seven-minute, 24 seconds span that ended with a 36-16 lead with 8:53 to play before halftime.

The shooting slowed down in the second half, but OUAZ finished at 52.9 percent overall and 12 of 30 from three. The Spirit assisted on 24 of 36 made baskets with 46 points in the paint and a 42-31 edge on the boards.

McKay Bundy scored a career-high 19 points off the bench to match Josiah De'laCerda for the team lead. Bundy was 8 of 9 from the field – making all seven attempts inside the arc – while grabbing nine rebounds and three assists. De'laCerda finished with nine rebounds and three blocks.

The Spirit also got a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds from Devin Collins and 14 points from Jayce Catchings.

Embry-Riddle (2-3) shot 42.4 percent and went 23 of 32 at the foul line. They turned it over 16 times, which resulted in 20 OUAZ points.

Dennis Pomazanov led the Eagles with 19 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

OUAZ will return from the holiday weekend with a trip to Flagstaff on Tuesday for an exhibition at Northern Arizona.
