OUAZ Run Ends with Loss in Title Game

ATHERTON, Calif. – The postseason success that had been with the OUAZ men's soccer team of late came to an end on Saturday with a 2-0 loss to Vanguard in the championship game of the GSAC Men's Soccer Tournament.

After playing a reasonably even first half, Vanguard (11-3-3) struck first when Aidan Doherty ran onto a bouncing ball at the top of the box and blasted a shot into the goal for a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute.

OUAZ (12-6-2) had the game's next two scoring chances stopped by the Vanguard keeper, and then in the 83rd minute, the Lions' Robert Ronco headed home a cross from Nathaniel Gomez for the late insurance tally.

The game ended with OUAZ taking nine shots and getting four on goal while also having an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Aleem Barclay led the Spirit with four shots.

OUAZ will now wait to see if their season was enough to earn them an at-large berth into the 40-team NAIA National Championship when the field is announced on Monday.
