Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Spirit Fall Twice in California

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The second day of its three-day road trip to California wasn't kind to the OUAZ men's water polo team as the Spirit dropped a pair of games at the Samuelson Aquatics Center. The day began with a 12-10 loss to Biola and then ended with Cal Lutheran securing an 8-6 victory.

Against Biola, the Spirit had a 4-1 lead that expanded to a 7-3 advantage by halftime. The scoring went cold in the second half as the Eagles had evened the game at 9-9 by the end of the third quarter and then outscored the Spirit 3-1 in the fourth to claim the win.

In the second game, OUAZ again built an early lead as four different players scored in the first half. However, Cal Luthern scored three straight goals to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 lead early in the third quarter.

Roland Mantecon would pull the Spirit level at 5-5 late in the third quarter before the Kingsman countered with a pair of goals. Johnathan Wong scored with 2:36 to play that had OUAZ back within one goal, but CLU would notch the final tally 14 seconds later.

Mantecon was the only Spirit player with multiple goals against CLU, scoring twice on nine shot attempts. Arnaud Parmentier and Garrett Davis had two assists each.

Clay Gyde made ten saves in goal against CLU.

The Spirit will bring their trip to a close on Saturday with a pair of games in Los Angeles. The day begins at 2 p.m. against Caltech and then continues at 5 p.m. versus Occidental.
