FULLERTON, Calif. – Playing their final road game of the season, the OUAZ men's basketball team fell to Hope International 90-69 in Golden State Athletic Conference action at Darling Pavilion.
While OUAZ (9-17, 4-12 GSAC) wasn't able to complete the season sweep of Hope International (18-10, 7-9), there was some Spirit history made as
Dimetres Moore became the first player in program history to score 1,000 career points.
The milestone came with 11:01 to play in the second half when Moore scored his 18th points of the game. Moore achieved the mark in 72 games played at OUAZ. He ended the night with a team-best 23 points on 10 of 19 shooting with three rebounds and three assists.
OUAZ shot 46.2 percent as a team and they finished 4 of 24 from beyond the arc. HIU shot 54.4 percent with 12 made threes. Each team scored 28 point in the paint and the Royals had a 33-26 advantage in rebounds.
Elijah Simmons added 19 points for the Spirit.
Shazier Lawson scored 15 points with six rebounds.
The loss officially eliminated the Spirit from qualifying for the GSAC Tournament. They have two games remaining this season – both at home – with the first coming on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Menlo.
