GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Spirit men's basketball team had a chance turn the fortune of its conference record on Saturday, but unfortunately they were unable to be rival Arizona Christian on Saturday. OUAZ now starts Golden State Athletic Conference play 0-3.
OUAZ scored the game's first bucket, but that was the only lead the Spirit would enjoy. The Firestorm put up 55 points in the first half, and while OUAZ put up a valiant effort in the second half, it was not enough to avoid a 83-70 loss.
Shazier Lawson put up a double-double in Glendale, scoring 20 points and grabbing ten rebounds. He led the Spirit in both categories on Saturday.
Point production came from everywhere for the Spirit, as four of the five starters scored in double figures. Six of the seven players to check in for OUAZ scored at least one field goal.
The Spirit will not have to wait long to get back into conference play, as they have five days off before heading to Southern California. They play Vanguard on Thursday, then head over to San Diego Christian to take on the Hawks.
