Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Carey’s Big Night Not Enough at William Jessup

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Despite a season-high 34 points from Brian Carey, the OUAZ men's basketball team dropped a Golden State Athletic Conference game at William Jessup, 93-81, on Thursday night at Warrior Arena.

OUAZ (6-11, 2-6 GSAC) held a 42-36 lead with 2:06 to play before halftime before William Jessup (14-6, 6-2) went on a 21-5 run to open a 57-47 advantage less than five minutes into the second half. The Spirit would only get within five the rest of the night as the Warriors shot 60.7 percent in the second half.

Carey scored his 34 points on 12 of 24 shooting and by converting 10 of 12 at the foul line. This is his third 30-point outing of the season and it's the seventh-most points scored in a game by an OUAZ player in team history. He also added seven assists and six rebounds.

The Spirit shot 47.6 percent from the field, but again struggled from beyond the arc at just 2 of 9 with none made threes in the second half. They scored 50 points in the paint and committed only 10 turnovers, but they couldn't get enough stops as Jessup shot 50.8 percent as a team and went 11 of 30 from distance.

Shazier Lawson added 21 points and eight rebounds for the Spirit. Dimetres Moore finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and four steals.

William Jessup had four players in double figures with Luis Medearis leading the way with 21.

OUAZ will close out the first half on conference play on Saturday in Atherton, Calif., when they face Menlo College at 4 p.m. (AZ).
