The OUAZ men's basketball team was still looking for its first Golden State Athletic Conference win this season on Saturday, and they jumped out to a good start in the first half. While San Diego Christian was able to erase a ten point deficit in the second half to force overtime, the Spirit were able to pull out the victory in the extra frame.
OUAZ picked up a 78-76 win over San Diego Christian on the road on Saturday afternoon.
Dimetres Moore led the way for the Spirit with his 26 points and five rebounds.
Shazier Lawson also had a productive day, as he scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He also recorded a block, an assist and a steal. Lawson also shot 56% from the floor.
Elijah Simmons produced well in 28 minutes for the Spirit. He was the third player in OUAZ with double-digit points with 14, and he added on four rebounds and an assist.
The Spirit converted three of its four shots in overtime, as well as capitalizing on five of its six free throw attempts in extra time. The overtime also marked the first time in program history OUAZ has played beyond regulation.
San Diego Christian got a double-double from Bryce Parsons, who put up 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jared Nyivih was on point shy of the same feat, as he had nine points to compliment his 14 boards.
The Spirit will look to build on the victory when the return home Jan. 16 to take on Hope International. Tip-off from Faith Arena is scheduled for 7pm MST.
