INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Making their first-ever appearance at the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament, the OUAZ men's tennis team easily defeated Marymount California 5-0 in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday morning at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
OUAZ (10-6) – the tournament's No. 3 seed – started the day by sweeping all three doubles matches against the sixth-seeded Marymount.
Leonardo Couto and
Noel Maurin opened the scoring with an 8-1 win in the No. 2 match.
Austin Todd and
Jordan Petrie followed with an 8-4 win on the No. 3 match while
Eduardo Couto and
Andres Reyes completed the sweep with their 8-4 win in the No. 1 match.
The Spirit wasted little time in completing the win by taking the first two points in singles action. L.Couto won the No. 3 match 6-3, 6-3 to put OUAZ on the brink of winning. Maurin then clinched the win with his 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 4 match.
Once the match was clinched, the remaining matches were then halted. The Spirit were leading in all four matches till being played with all four OUAZ players having won the opening set.
With the win OUAZ advances to the semifinals where they will face No. 2-seed Hope International on Wednesday. Doubles action will begin at 9 a.m. and live scoring is available at
