EL CAJON, Calif. – Closing out the inaugural weekend of competition for the OUAZ beach volleyball team, the Spirit picked up another two wins to finish a perfect road trip. OUAZ began the day with a 5-0 win over El Camino College before a 4-1 win against Grossmont College.
The Spirit recorded their third straight sweep when they closed out El Camino. The Spirit had two of the matches go to a third set, but
Andrea Gonzalez and
Viri Serrano were able to win the No. 1 match 15-10 in the third to complete a rally after dropping the first set. The No. 5 match saw
Jessica Youngberg and
Mariah Clausen also drop the first set before winning 16-14 in the third.
Grossmont snapped the sweep streak, but OUAZ was still able to secure the victory. They led 2-1 after wins in the No. 4 and No. 5 matches.
Ashleigh Atsaros and
Alyssa Dincoff secured the win when they won the No. 3 match 21-19, 21-18.
Saturday's two wins has the Spirit 6-0 on the season. They will be back in action on Friday when they face Benedictine Mesa at the Gene Autry Sports Complex in Mesa, Arizona at noon.
