Spirit End Slide with 104-95 Win at SAGU

PHOENIX – The OUAZ men's basketball team picked up its first win in over a month with a 104-95 win at SAGU American Indian College on Wednesday night in non-conference action.
 
OUAZ (4-18) snapped an eight-game losing streak with the win and they broke the 100-point barrier for the first time this season and fourth time in school history.
 
Six Spirit players scored in double figures during the wire-to-wire victory. The team shot 50.0 percent from the field while going 7 of 18 from beyond the arc. They finished with a 59-41 advantage in rebounds with 52 points in the paint.
 
Dimetres Moore led the way with 23 points for his team-leading fifth 20-point outing of the season. He went 6 of 12 from the floor and made both of his 3-point attempts while also adding 9 of 10 at the foul line. Moore also provided six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
 
Elijah Simmons added a career-high 17 points with Tanner Riley scoring 13 and Brian King Jr. posting 12. Marcus Williams finished with 10 points, eight assists, and six rebounds and Brian Roberts had a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards.
 
OUAZ scored the first seven points of the game and had the lead to 26-18 with 8:54 remaining in the first half. The Spirit would then use a 19-2 run over the next five minutes to help them take a 49-28 lead into intermission.
 
SAGU (4-10) would use a 14-1 run in the second half to help them get back into the game and the Warriors would eventually get within 99-93 with 18 seconds to play. The Spirit would close out the win by hitting 5 of 6 at the foul line in the closing seconds.
 
Harley Upton gave the Warriors 40 points and 11 rebounds in defeat.
 
The Spirit will now get back into Golden State Athletic Conference play where they have six games remaining. The first of those is on Saturday when they head back across the valley to face No. 25 Arizona Christian at 7:30 p.m.
