CHANDLER, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's basketball closed out their countable games of 2019 with a 95-83 loss to Lethbridge in their second of two games at the Cactus Classic held this week at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
OUAZ (4-7) never led in the game and the Spirit trailed their Canadian opponents 76-65 with 6:11 to play in the second half. They used a 10-1 run over the following 75 seconds to get within 77-75 only the see Lethbridge counter with eight of the game's next nine points to establish a large enough margin to win.
After shooting just 34.2 percent from the field in the first half, OUAZ hit 48.7 percent in the second half to end the game shooting 41.3 percent. They made 7 of 22 from beyond the arc and converted only 10 of 18 at the foul line.
Dimetres Moore led all players with 33 points to finish the Cactus Classic with a tournament-leading 31.5 points per game average. He made 14 of 31 shots while grabbing nine rebounds and getting a pair of steals.
Brian Carey added 23 points and five assists for the Spirit.
Elijah Simmons and
Jake Satter had 11 points apiece.
The Pronghorns shot 45.3 percent and used 17 offensive rebounds for a 53-42 edge in total boards.
OUAZ will now take a few days off for Christmas break before returning to action in an exhibition game at California Baptist on December 28.
