SURPRISE, Ariz. –
Brian Carey led the OUAZ men's basketball team to a 79-59 win over Westcliff on Saturday afternoon to snap the team's two-game losing streak.
The senior guard went off for a career-high 32 points to record the program's ninth 30-point game all-time. Carey hit 9 of 16 from the field and was perfect on 13 attempts at the foul line. He also contributed four assists and four rebounds.
OUAZ (3-3) led the entire game as the scored the first seven points of the game during a 13-2 run to start the day. Westcliff (1-9) would only get as close as six the rest of the game and were never closer than seven in the second half.
Dimetres Moore added 19 points – his first game under 20 this season – for the Spirit.
Shazier Lawson scored 11 points with eight rebounds.
The Spirit shot 49.1 percent from the field with a 46-18 advantage in points in the paint. They also got 18 fast break points to help balance the 2 of 8 shooting from beyond the arc. Westcliff was held to 35.4 percent shooting and OUAZ held a 41-34 edge in rebounds.
OUAZ will ride this win into next week's Golden State Athletic Conference opener as the Spirit host No. 22 Westmont on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Faith Arena.
