OUAZ Visits UVU Before Rematch with Benedictine Mesa

OUAZ MEN'S BASKETBALL NOTES
• Riding a two-game winning streak for the first time since the 2017-18 season, the OUAZ men's basketball team will play two games this week. They start with an exhibition game against Utah Valley (NCAA DI) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Orem, Utah. The Spirit will then return to Faith Arena for a rematch with Benedictine Mesa on Saturday at 2 p.m.

• OUAZ enters the week at 2-1 overall after securing two wins last week. They are 1-0 at home after defeating Embry-Riddle on Saturday in the first-ever game in Faith Arena.

• The Spirit and Wolverines have never met. The game will be an exhibition for the Spirit and will count for UVU. It is the first game of any kind for the Spirit against a NCAA DI opponent.

• OUAZ and Benedictine Mesa will play for the second time in two weeks when they meet on Saturday. The Redhawks lead the all-time series 3-2 after their 96-94 win on November 2. The Spirit are 1-1 in the series all-time at home.

HOW TO FOLLOW
• Tuesday's game will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network. Brandon Crow (play-by-play) and Holton Hunsaker (analyst) will call the action on the UVU broadcast. The WAC Digital Network is available at WACdigitalNetwork.com and is also available on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Roku TV.

• The OUAZ Digital Network will broadcast Saturday's game live with James Poovey on the call. You can find the OUAZ Digital Network at OUAZSpirit.com/digital. The broadcast will also be available on Android TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku devices via the NAIA Network app.

TRENDING
• With their win over Embry-Riddle on Saturday, the Spirit won consecutive games for the first time since the final two games of the 2017-18 season. The 2-1 start is the best in the three year history of the program.

• OUAZ will enter the week's action 19th in the NAIA in scoring by averaging 92.33 points per game. They have scored 90-plus points in two of their three outings this season, including 104 in the win at SAGU last Friday.

• The Spirit are 31st in the NAIA with their 48.5 percent shooting, but they rank fourth by shooting 46.6 percent from beyond the arc. OUAZ leads the NAIA by shooting 86.2 percent at the foul line.

• OUAZ is giving up 80.33 points per game to the opposition while opponents shoot 46.5 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from three. The Spirit are 37th in the country with their plus-12.00 scoring margin.

DOING MOORE
Dimetres Moore has been stellar for the Spirit to start the season and he currently ranks third in the NAIA by scoring 23.33 points per game. He has scored 20-plus points in all three games after doing that just five times in his first two years with the Spirit.

• Moore narrowly missed the first triple-double in program history against Embry-Riddle when he recorded 24 points, 10 rebounds, and a school record nine steals. Those nine steals are the most by a player in the Golden State Athletic Conference since the 2010-11 season.

• He begins the week fifth in the NAIA at 4.00 steals per game while ranking 29th in rebounds (8.67) and 16th in offensive rebounds (3.67).

LAY DOWN THE LAW-SON
Shazier Lawson is scoring 18.67 points per game to rank 30th in the NAIA and he is 23rd in the country by shooting 60.5 percent. Lawson had his first 20-point game of the season with 22 in the win over Embry-Riddle.

• Lawson had a pair of double-doubles and he is sixth in the NAIA by grabbing 11.00 rebounds per game. His 8.00 defensive rebounds per contest ranks 10th nationally.

DIMES WITH CAREY
Brian Carey has scored in double figures in all three games and is coming off a double-double of 19 points and a school record 10 assists against Embry-Riddle.

• Carey is currently fourth in the nation at 7.33 assists per game while holding a 2.44 assist-to-turnover ratio.

ABOUT UTAH VALLEY
• Utah Valley will host the Spirit with a 1-1 overall record and riding a seven-game home winning streak dating back to last season. They are coming off a 74-62 loss at Denver last Saturday.

• Isaiah White leads the team in scoring at 17.0 points per game while Brandon Averette adds 16.5 points per contest.

ABOUT BENEDICTINE MESA
• Benedictine Mesa starts the week at 3-1 on the season after splitting two games last week. The Redhawks are 1-1 in road games and they will play a home game against Park Gilbert on Tuesday.

• Austin Denham and Antowine Locke, Jr. are each averaging 15.67 points per game to lead the team. Nick Sessions blocks 2.00 shots per game to rank 14th in the NAIA.

LOOKING AHEAD
• OUAZ will remain in Arizona next week as they head to Gilbert to face their newest in-state rival, Park Gilbert. The first-ever meeting between the two programs is slated for Thursday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the San Tan Charter School.
