SURPRISE, Ariz. – The first Golden State Athletic Conference game in program history for the OUAZ men's basketball team saw the Spirit fall to No. 1 The Master's, 99-72, on Thursday night at Willow Canyon High School.
After OUAZ (1-5, 0-1 GSAC) scored the game's first basket, The Master's (7-1, 1-0) went on a 23-2 run to take control of the game and they never looked back. The Spirit would get within nine in the half before the visitors took a 49-25 lead into halftime.
On a night they shot 36.4 percent for the game, OUAZ hit on 44.7 percent in the second half. They were able to get out in transition with 24 fast break points and they scored 14 points from 18 Master's turnovers.
Dimetres Moore has another solid outing for the Spirit with a game-high 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting. He knocked down a pair of 3-pointers while grabbing four rebounds and two steals.
The Mustangs would shoot 50.7 percent overall and they added 10 threes. They controlled the glass 53-38 while scoring 12 points from nine offensive rebounds.
Tanner Riley added 18 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals for the Spirit.
Marcus Williams posted 13 points and four assists.
Hodges Bailey led six Master's players in double figures with 19 points off the bench.
OUAZ will now get set to host No. 23 Westmont on Saturday at Willow Canyon High School with tipoff slated for 2 p.m.
