Spirit Head to Bulldog Tipoff Classic

THE AGENDA
The OUAZ men's basketball team will leave Arizona for the first time this season as they head to Redlands, California, to participate in the Bulldog Tipoff Classic. The Spirit will open the trip on Friday at 7 p.m. (MST) when they face NCAA Division III's Augsburg. They then play Cal Miramar in an exhibition game on Saturday at 6 p.m. (MST).

ABOUT THE SPIRIT
OUAZ will enter the weekend at 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in road games. The Spirit are coming off an 84-80 loss at Benedictine Mesa on November 7. They also dropped their only neutral site game of the season, 65-63, to Southwest on October 26.
 
The Spirit are currently scoring 72.3 points per game and they have twice gone for 70-plus. They are shooting 38.3 percent from the field and hit 4.7 3-pointers per game at 24.1 percent. OUAZ is getting 36.3 rebounds per outing while distributing 6.0 assists per game.
 
The Opposition is scoring 87.3 points per game while shooting 40.2 percent from the floor. Opponents hit 7.0 threes per game while making 28.0 percent from beyond the arc. The Spirit force 15 turnovers per game and get 6.3 steals per contest.
 
Brian King Jr. leads the Spirit in scoring at 23.7 points per game and he is coming off tying the school record with 37 points in the loss at BenU Mesa. He is shooting 46.7 percent from the field while also leading the team with 20 rebounds and seven steals.
 
Tanner Riley adds 15.7 points per game on the year and he shoots 45.7 percent from the floor. He has twice scored in double figures, including a 23-point outing against Southwest in the season opener.
 
Leandro Amador averages 6.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Dimetres Moores gets 5.7 points and has five steals.
 
ABOUT AUGSBURG
Augsburg is 1-0 on the season after a 91-76 win over Northland College on November 10. In the game, the Auggies shot 50.0 percent from the field with 11 made 3-pointers. Booker Coplin led the team with 28 points while Kevin McKiernan added 21.
 
OUAZ and Augsburg will play for the first time on Friday.
 
ABOUT CAL MIRAMAR
The Cal Miramar game will count as an exhibition for OUAZ. The Spirit swept two games against the Fighting Falcons last season, including a 111-91 win in February in Surprise.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Spirit will play their first home game of the season on November 20 when they complete the season series against Benedictine Mesa. Tipoff at Willow Canyon High School is scheduled for 7 p.m.
