SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's soccer team brought its regular season to a close with a 2-1 loss to No. 23 The Master's University on Saturday afternoon at Spirit Field.
The loss marks the first time this season that OUAZ (11-5-1, 3-4-1 GSAC) has dropped consecutive games.
The Master's (14-4-0, 6-2-0 GSAC) took an early 1-0 lead with a goal from Trevor Mangan in the 10th minute. The Mustangs doubled their advantage in the 65th minute on a goal by Benji Tembo.
OUAZ pulled one back in the 87th minute when
Bryan Hernandez headed home a ball played by
Kyle McDowell. The Spirit had a chance to level the game in the final minutes, but
Serigne Amar Ndao had an attempt turned away.
The Spirit had a 16-9 edge in total shots and they put 10 of those chances on goal.
Ricardo Navarro put all four of his team-leading shots on frame.
Yuri Nascimento made two saves in taking the loss.
OUAZ ends its first season in the GSAC with 10 points and sixth in the final standings. They will compete in the NCCAA postseason with full details being released in the coming days.
