OUAZ Has No Answer for Eagles

ESPANOLA, N.M. – The OUAZ men's basketball team completed its two-game trip to the Okay Owingeh Classic by falling to the tournament host Northern New Mexico 113-74 on Saturday night.
 
OUAZ (0-2) couldn't match the offensive effort of the home squad. Northern New Mexico (2-0) shot 47.8 percent from the field and scored 42 points in the paint. The Spirit made just 32.2 percent in the game and finished 4 of 21 from beyond the arc.
 
The Eagles put a 17-3 run on the Spirit during the early stages of the first half to build a double-digit lead that they never gave back. NNMC had a 50-32 edge in total rebounds and they converted 18 offensive rebounds into 30 second chance points.
 
Brian King Jr. led OUAZ with 17 points by hitting on 10 of 11 at the foul line. Kevin Lacy scored 10 points off the bench. Josh Argente added nine points and led the team with six rebounds.
 
The Spirit got 32 points from the bench and they had eight steals.
 
Northern New Mexico got 16 points from Makye Richards to lead the team.
 
OUAZ now has 11 days off before returning to action on November 7 when they head across town to face Benedictine Mesa at 7:30 p.m.
