PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona men's soccer team were shutout on Thursday evening, falling 4-0 at the hands of Embry-Riddle University in Prescott, Arizona.
With the loss, the Spirit fall to 3-3 overall on the season. With the victory, Embry-Riddle (AZ) University improves to 2-3 on the season.
"It was a tough loss for us tonight," said OUAZ head men's soccer coach Matt Gow. "When you play a good team, you cannot give away goals or it will make for a long night. It was one of those games where things were not going our way and unfortunately we did not respond well."
Gow continued, "On a positive note, we have a week before our next match. This will allow us to reset, recover and work on some things over the next week.
The trend continued for OUAZ on Thursday evening at Embry-Riddle, as the Spirit were shutout for the first time this season. In their three victories this season, OUAZ is outscoring their opponents 14-0. In their three losses, the Spirit have been outscored 13-3.
In the first half, both teams played even for the first part of the first half. Then the Eagles offense came to life. Embry-Riddle struck for a pair of goals in the 27th minute, and then scored once more in the final minute before halftime to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the break.
The second half featured great defense on both sides of the field. The Eagles slipped one more goal past OUAZ in the 49th minute to seal their 4-0 victory over the Spirit.
In defeat, OUAZ was outshot 15-11 and Embry-Riddle attempted six corner kicks, to just three for the Spirit.
The Spirit return to action a week from tonight, when they travel across town to Mesa for a match-up at Benedictine University – Mesa at 8pm next Thursday September 14th.
